Our innovative approach
We offer a new method of medical inquiry, where the doctor is
seen as a guide to the identification of causes of health problems that take into account chronic stress, environmental
triggers, life experiences, as well as organ function from
conventional medical testing (blood work, radiology, pulmonary
function tests, cardiac tests etc.)

Negin Hajizadeh (MD, MPH)
Negin Hajizadeh (MD, MPH) is a pulmonologist (lung doctor), intensive care
doctor, scientist, and functional medicine practitioner who has been cultivating the idea for SenseMed over the
duration of her career. SenseMed brings together the various experiences from
her personal life, life as a scientist and as a medical doctor, to provide a new way
of helping people to heal and to breathe better.
As an academic researcher she has focused on how people make decisions about their health, and how life experiences influence our health. She is also a data scientist, meaning that she is trained in analyzing health data to discover the causes of medical problems and areas where we should focus our medical interventions. Empowering patients, their families, their communities and their doctors, to make evidence based decisions, based on what the patient values, has always been the core of her work.
As a lung doctor (pulmonologist) she has been interested in the effects of exercise on people's health. She conducted the largest clinical trial providing telehealth delivered exercise therapy (pulmonary rehabilitation) to people with severe COPD (emphysema and chronic bronchitis), and found that this therapy is safe to offer to patients from the comfort of their own homes. Turns out exercise and social connection are powerful treatments for chronic disease. She is an open minded practitioner, making sure to stay updated with the latest scientific evidence, presenting at academic medical conferences, but also with knowledge of traditional medical practices - what she calls 'generational wisdom' - from hundreds of years of common sense experience with health such as yoga and diet-based treatments. Acknowledging gaps in conventional medical training she has recently completed training in Functional Medicine via the Institute for Functional Medicine and integrates these approaches in the evaluation of chronic disease.
As a person, she has deep personal experience with how the mind and memory work with the lungs, muscles, heart, nervous system and other body parts to shape how we experience our daily lives and our health. She herself has asthma and has experience with how doctor's treatment of asthma should be individualized and expanded to include mind and body connection work such as yoga, mindfulness based stress reduction, and dietary changes. She also had Covid19 at the very early stages of the pandemic as a practicing intensive care doctor. Following the acute illness she experienced months of exhaustion and other symptoms that are now known as Long-Covid **thanks to the thousands of patients who came together and raised their voices together for the medical community to pay attention to this long-term effect of the virus**. She is also the mother of a child with chronic migraines and has first-hand experience with the limitations of well-meaning medical doctors and our western medical practice.
Negin brings these life experiences to her practice of medicine and, together with Emily, a leading expert in trauma therapy, is determined to help hundreds of patients, with the goal of rippling out to the general practice of medicine, and to the wellbeing of communities.
Emily Price LCSW
Emily Price, LCSW is a psychotherapist with an expertise in treating trauma and anxiety.
She has completed intensive training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Somatic Experiencing, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), the Neuroscience of Attachment, Psychedelic Integration, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). She runs a successful private practice specialized in treating people who have trauma and anxiety.

Emily is convinced that we can bridge the gap that has erupted between medical and mental health care in the integrated model that SenseMed offers She too has had her own journey of dealing with chronic pain and illness and constantly hearing that the symptoms she was experiencing were ``all in her head``. In fact, some of her symptoms did improve with somatic techniques and acceptance based behavioral interventions. But the classification of symptoms as purely mental or purely medical has proven to be extremely limited and destructive. She is excited about offering SenseMed's innovative approach to evaluating the root cause of dyspnea without the arbitrary dichotomy of Medical versus Mental Health related impairments! Bringing her expertise to the expertise of the medical and scientific domains that Negin brings is sure to help people who have felt frustrated, isolated, or hopeless when attempting to diagnose and manage their chronic symptoms.
